in case i forget

Jesus is the apostle and high priest of my confession. He is the author and the finisher of my faith.

When life feels overwhelming, I don't have to let every wave, responsibility, or worry pull my attention away from Jesus. I can return to the truth of who He is and trust Him to sustain me as I press forward.

THIS WEEK'S JOURNAL PROMPT

Take some time to reflect on these questions:

  • What is one way you feel your focus wavering, or one way you're tempted to drift away?

  • How does knowing that you share in a heavenly calling help anchor you when life would have you drift away?

Give yourself space to admit what is competing for your attention. Bring those things before God and reflect on how this passage encourages you to keep your focus on Jesus.

We are back in Hebrews chapter three and y’all, there is so much richness packed into just the first four verses that I genuinely could not rush through it. We are talking about what it means to be called holy brothers and sisters, why the author of Hebrews chose that specific language after everything he just said in chapter two, and why the difference between considering Jesus and focusing on Jesus is bigger than it might sound. This one is practical, it is personal, and it is for the woman with a bajillion tabs open in her brain trying to keep it all together.

Also, nine reviews. NINE. Thank you so much. You guys are the best.

QUICK RECAP OF WHERE WE HAVE BEEN

If you are new here, please go back and listen to the Hebrews series from the beginning. It will give you so much more context for what we are building in this episode. Here is the short version:

  • Hebrews chapter one established that Jesus is fully God, the radiance of the Father’s glory, superior to the angels in every way

  • Chapter two walked us through why He had to take on human flesh, how He became the founder of our salvation through suffering, why He is not ashamed to call us brothers and sisters, and how He destroyed the one who had the power of death so we would no longer have to be slaves to the fear of it

Chapter three picks up right where chapter two left off. And that word that opens this chapter, that word therefore, connects everything that follows directly to everything that came before. If you remember what that word means and why it matters from our earlier episodes, drop it in the comment section below. I will give you an air digital high five.

IN THIS EPISODE

  • Jesus is worthy of more glory than Moses: We look at the picture of the builder and the house, and what this passage teaches us about Christ.

  • Consider Jesus. Focus on Jesus: Why our focus matters when we're juggling the responsibilities of motherhood, marriage, and daily life.

  • When the waves feel overwhelming: Remembering Peter walking toward Jesus on the water and the importance of keeping our eyes on Him.

  • Trusting the One who sustains us: We may feel overwhelmed by what is happening around us, but Jesus is the author and finisher of our faith.

  • Putting it into practice: How can we continue to focus on Jesus when our responsibilities, worries, and desire for control threaten to distract us?
